As you all probably know, every week I write a blog about things that motivate me and things that motivate others. I realized that I never focused on what motivation actually means and where motivation comes from.
Motivation is defined as, “the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way”. But, where does motivation come from?
Motivation obviously starts with a thought. For example, you think, “I need to clean the house today.” However, this thought cannot force you to get off of the couch and clean. In my opinion, motivation comes from the heart. You desire a nice, clean, and comfortable house. This desire is what actually motivates you to tidy up.
Of course, you need to use your brain when completing tasks...but following your heart is extremely important. Your brain may cause you to doubt that your goals are possible. Your heart will always remind you what you really want to do, and if you listen to your heart, you’ll always end up where you’re destined to be. Your brain may set high expectations for yourself but you’re heart will always reach even higher.
I’ve finally learned to listen to my heart and I have found that my heart is leading me down a wonderful path. I feel that this new path is the one that God intends for me to follow. In conclusion, my biggest advice for you is to rely on your brain for common sense but to depend on your heart for setting goals and motivating yourself to achieve those goals.
